Can you make this hidden blade? You sure can! Here is one made by Braden. My thanks to him for sending in the picture. Take a picture of your hidden blade and send it it!
Here is what he has to say:
I finished my hidden blade today, I mounted a kabob shooter on it. They blade is in rough shape, I couldn't find any sandpaper. I couldn't find any leather or vinyl in town to make a gauntlet.
Here is how to make the gauntlet, You siply use a piece of cloth, leather or vinyl. I used vinyl and purchased a square yard of it in an arts and crafts store for ten dollars. You should cut it to the shape shown and be sure that it fits your forearm. There are four velcro strips on this. There is strip along the left and right )The one on the right is underneath) and these two are to hold the gauntlet on your arm. The two small velcro strips shown are to hold the hidden blade in place.
The large paper piece is the ornament. I made it out of card stock so it would be durable. It is partially glued down to the vinyl. And I decorated it by painting. I scanned this so you can use it fully decorated on your gauntlet. The two shorter pieces of velcro are to hold the hidden blade in place. The hidden blade is in place in the picture above.
Now Let's Build the Hidden Blade
The Printout gives you the exact dimensions of the box and the blade. You print that out and use the sheet to make all the parts for the setup. There are seven parts. This following picture shows almost the whole assembly. The blade box is just a bottom and two sides glued together. You see how the blade will slide inside that box?
From there it is just a matter of setting up the rubber band and the blade with the cover. You should tie two pieces of wire to a rubber band as shown in the picture. One of these wires attaches to the blade and the other wire attaches to the cover.
This picture shows the setup of the rubber band mechanism. You put a hole in the hidden blade about an inch from the end. Feed one wire through it and glue or tape it in place. Now you can see the hole in the cover on the left of the picture? You feed the other wire through that hole, but don't glue it yet! Now put the cover onto the box unit and try the spring action of the blade. Does it slide well? Does it have a nice ejecting motion? Holding the box closed with the blade in and loaded you can pull on the wire to tighten the rubber band, or loosen it until the blade action is right.
Then you can tape it all together.
The following picture shows the final assembly of the hidden blade and how you should load and lock it in place. Just pulling the string releases the blade. To see it in action you can watch the youtube video above.
What to do: Remember to glue in place the final two small pieces of cardboard or foamboard. These prevent the blade from springing right out. They are the blade stops.
The final thing to make is the ring finger trigger. This is just a piece of wire that acts like a ring, attached to a nail by a short piece of string. You make three holes to put this nail through. Two holes are in the box and one hole is right in the tip of the blade as shown.
So, push the blade in and then keep it in place with the nail. When you want to trigger the blade you just pull the string!
Just put a couple of strips of velcro on this and you can mount it to the gauntlet.
Can you make this hidden blade? You sure can! Here is one made by Tom. It came out great. He also attached a hidden gun to the side of it that shoots Q-Tips! My thanks to him for sending in all the great pics!
